NEXFLASH TECHNOLOGIES INTRODUCES HIGH-SPEED
1M-BIT (128Kx8) FLASH MEMORY

  • NX29F010 is Fastest in its Class with 35ns Access Time.
  • Now Shipping in a Variety of Package, Temperature and Speed Options.

SANTA CLARA, CA. - August 2, 1999
NexFlash Technologies, a provider of specialty Flash memory and intellectual property, today introduced the NX29F010, the fastest parallel Flash memory chip in its class. Available immediately, the NX29F010 is an ultra-fast 1M-bit (128Kx8), 5-volt, sectored Flash memory with access times as fast as 35 nano-seconds (ns) -- 22 percent faster than the previous industry-standard speed of 45ns. (NX29F010 speed grades of 45ns, 55ns, 70ns, and 90ns also are available.)

With the NX29F010, NexFlash is the first Flash memory supplier to achieve the 35ns level in a 128Kx8 organization. The chip enables manufacturers of products using high-speed controllers and digital signal processors (DSPs) to significantly improve system performance by eliminating wait states or enabling direct operation from Flash rather than high-speed SRAM. Applications that can benefit from the NX29F010's high speed include modems, graphics boards, printers, fax machines, DVD and CD-ROM drives, meters, set-top boxes, point-of-sale terminals, and motor controllers.

"Not so long ago there was an industry perception that demand for one megabit Flash would greatly diminish," said Robin Jigour, NexFlash vice president of marketing. "To the contrary, we see considerable activity in this segment that we plan to support for a long time. The NX29F010 offers a drop-in, compatible solution for existing systems and higher performance for new designs. It is the first of several products we will be introducing in this segment."

The NX29F010 is targeted at a market that's heating up rapidly. Flash memory revenues are projected to be $3.55 billion in 1999, a 43 percent increase from $2.49 billion in 1998, according to Semico Research.

"We're seeing significant growth in the overall Flash market including the one-megabit segment, where unit volume is expected to grow more than 40 percent this year," said Alan Niebel, director of non-volatile memory at Semico. "With the capacity from other Flash suppliers getting tight and limited sources for high-speed Flash devices, the arrival of the NexFlash NX29F010 is very timely."

Availibity
The NX29F010 is available from NexFlash in 32-pin TSOP, PLCC and PDIP packages, commercial (0 to 70C) and industrial (-40 to 85C) temperature, and 35, 45, 55, 70 and 90ns access speeds.
