NEXFLASH MEDIASTIK® MODULES AND
MEMORIES DESIGNED INTO NEW ENTRY-LEVEL DIGITAL CAMERAS, OFFERED
BY LEADING ON-LINE RESELLERS
- Unique Flash Storage Alternative for Emerging Entry-Level Digital
Camera Segment.
- Manufacturers, Resellers Cite High Demand for Affordable Cameras
with NexFlash MediaStik Module.
SANTA CLARA, CA. - January 10, 2000
NexFlash Technologies today announced that the NexFlash MediaStik®
Serial Flash modules and memories have been designed into several
entry-level digital cameras (under $200) now offered by leading
manufacturers. Additionally, several of the foremost on-line resellers
now offer the MediaStik modules for entry-level digital cameras.
Affordable digital cameras in this fast-growing market segment were
showcased at last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Relisys, Mustek and other manufacturers of digital cameras have
introduced affordable VGA (640 x 480 pixel) quality cameras using
NexFlash's Serial Flash modules and memories. Resellers of the entry-level
digital cameras and MediaStik modules, including Egghead.com, StarDot
Technologies and Etracks, reported brisk sales of this type camera
over the holiday season and expect the demand to continue this year.
NexFlash MediaStik modules and memories provide manufacturers, resellers
and consumers a unique Flash solution that reduces system costs
and brings removability to entry-level digital cameras and other
electronic products.
"Most digital camera manufacturers today focus on high-end megapixel
cameras that sell for over $300 and need Flash Cards of eight megabytes
or higher capacity," said Robin Jigour, vice president of marketing
at NexFlash. "While megapixel cameras offer better picture quality,
VGA-type cameras are adequate for most Internet use and other basic
applications. MediaStik Serial Flash modules and memories are an
ideal solution for entry-level digital cameras priced under $200."
Unique Blend: Form Factor, Interface, Power, Capacity:
MediaStik Flash modules offer a truly unique, form-factor, interface,
power and capacity solution when compared to other Flash cards on
the market. They feature reliable "smart-card-type" contacts and
a truly space-efficient form factor. The flat 45mm x 15mm (1.8"
x 0.6") "stick-like" size makes the MediaStik module the smallest
Flash card available. A protective sleeve conveniently holds up
to four modules in the space the size of a business card. The simple
two-pin interface and low-cost smart card connector help reduce
camera system costs compared to other Flash cards that use up to
50 pins. Additionally, the low-power consumption (five milliamps
active, one microamp standby) is ideal for battery operation.
MediaStik Flash modules are offered in one, two and four megabyte
capacities, an ideal range for text, voice and low-end imaging applications.
Higher and lower capacities are also planned. Most entry-level cameras
currently use the two megabytes version, which can store up to 28
pictures, depending on the camera.
What Resellers and Manufacturers Are Saying:
"Digital cameras that use NexFlash memory are
among our best-sellers," said Saeed Ghaemi, Egghead.com's vice president
of consumer electronics. "People like the affordability and the
ability to have unlimited storage space by purchasing additional
MediaStik modules on-line."
"We have two entry-level digital cameras in our Relisys Dimera product
line that use MediaStik Flash modules and memories," said Andy Song,
general manager of Teco Image Taiwan. "They are among the most affordable
digital cameras available today that support removable Flash storage."
"Mustek offers several digital camera models," said Michael Todd,
product manager of Mustek USA, "Our VDC3500 comes with a two-megabyte
MediaStik Flash module and is very popular."
