ISD Voice Technology Featured In New Electronic Organizer

ChipCorder® Technology Adds New Dimension to Electronic Organizer

LAS VEGAS, Nev., January 5, 1996 - Today at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show (CES), ISD (Information Storage Devices) Inc., (NASDAQ: ISDI), a leading supplier of semiconductor voice record and playback solutions, announced that EOS Systems Corporation has incorporated ISD's ChipCorder® products into its Aurora Voice Organizer -- also being announced at CES. The Aurora Voice Organizer is the first electronic organizer to provide a voice record and playback feature activated via a simple two-button control. Users can record a voice message and retrieve that message later, without ever having to turn the organizer on.

The ISD2590 Series integrated circuit incorporated into the Aurora Voice Organizer features ISD's patented ChipCorder® technology which allows voices or messages to be recorded directly on a single microchip for later playback. ISD's innovative ChipCorder® technology stores voice in its natural form to offer a high-quality, natural-sounding message.

"ISD's ChipCorder® technology provides users of our Aurora Voice Organizer with a new dimension of spontaneity. The natural quality of the sound combined with the message- retention reliability of the ChipCorder® technology, makes this a most welcome addition to the feature set offered in the organizer," stated Andy Kuo, OEM department division manager for EOS Systems Corporation.

Steve Stephansen, vice president of marketing and sales for ISD noted, "EOS Systems' use of the ISD ChipCorder® technology in a product like the Aurora Voice Organizer illustrates how voice features are being integrated into every day business tools. The distinct advantage ChipCorder® technology offers in natural sound reproduction enhances the appeal of any product into which it is incorporated."

CES attendees can view the new Aurora Voice Organizer at Aurora's booth #10736, located in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ChipCorder® Technology

ISD's patented ChipCorder® technology is a single-chip solution for voice recording and playback in a variety of consumer, communications and industrial applications. It uses a unique "multilevel" storage methodology in which one of more than 250 distinct voltage levels are stored per memory cell. The technology enables voice and audio signals to be stored directly in their natural form into nonvolatile EEPROM memory cells. This provides approximately eight times more storage space for any given memory size an 8:1 advantage over the over the alternative two-level, digitized signal storage technology. Additionally, ChipCorder® products eliminate the need for external A/D and D/A circuits to, providinge a single-chip, solid-state solution that requires no software, unlike other alternatives which are more difficult to integrate.

Furthermore, ChipCorder® technology offers high-quality, voice reproduction because the voice signal is stored in its direct form and not encoded or compressed. It is the only single-chip, non-volatile solution available. Recorded messages will be retained even when batteries wear out. ChipCorder® devices can be recorded and re-recorded reliably over 100,000 times.

To date, ChipCorder® technology has been incorporated into hundreds of products, including cellular phones, pagers, personal voice organizers, telephone answering devices, voice "message pads," games, toys, interactive books, alarms, point-of-sale displays, novelty items, greeting cards and personalized gifts. It is also found in industrial announcement/annunciator systems, instrumentation, and building security systems.
