ISD Donates Talking Teddy Bears to Local Charities

Stuffed Toys Feature ChipCorder® Technology

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 24, 1995 -- Information Storage Devices (ISD), (NASDAQ: ISDI), a leading supplier of voice solutions, has donated 9,000 "talking" teddy bears to various charitable organizations within the San Francisco Bay area. The bears feature ISD's ChipCorder® technology which consists of a single-chip voice record/playback microchip. The ChipCorder® device enables people to easily record their own personal message into the bear so that the bear then "talks" when the message is played back.

5,000 of the bears have been donated to Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT), a non-profit service organization in Sunnyvale, Calif. which collects a wide variety of manufacturing by-products, overruns, and scrap materials for redistribution to schools and community groups. RAFT will donate some of the bears to selected children's medical providers as well as offer the bears to all RAFT members for fund-raising events.

Mary Simon, executive director of RAFT noted, "RAFT will donate bears to the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford; the San Jose YMCA Rape Crisis Center; the San Jose Children's Hospital; and to the Child Advocacy Council in Palo Alto"

"The bears are definitely eye-catching and what makes them especially appealing is the fact that children interact directly with the toy in any language," she added.

David Angel, president and CEO of ISD explained, "We had been looking for a way to put something back into the community and we were particularly interested in doing something directly for children. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer these teddy bears to a worthwhile organization dedicated to children's education and growth such as RAFT. We hope the bears will bring hours of joy and delight to the children who receive them."

In addition to the 5,000 bears donated to RAFT, ISD has given more than 4,000 bears to other charitable and community organizations including the Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, Calif.; The Village House, a division of Eastfield Ming Quong Service League of Los Gatos, Calif.; Loaves and Fishes Family Kitchen in San Jose, Calif; Chamberlain Home in Hollister, Calif.; The Children's Shelter in Oakland, Calif.; American Association of University Women in Los Gatos, Calif.; and the Public Broadcast Service (PBS) in San Jose, Calif.

The ISD1020AX Series integrated circuit incorporated into the teddy bears features ISD's patented ChipCorder® technology that allows voice and sound to be recorded directly on a single microchip for later playback. ISD's innovative ChipCorder® technology stores voice in natural form to offer a high-quality, natural-sounding message. ISD's proprietary technology also enables messages recorded on ChipCorder® devices to be saved for up to 100 years without any power or battery back-up.
