Winbond Introduces New Voiceband CODEC Chip For USB Applications

San Jose, CA, Dec. 8, 2003 — Winbond Electronics Corporation America, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today introduced the W681513, a new Voiceband CODEC chip aimed at USB applications. The W681513 is part of a growing family of voice CODEC chip solutions that Winbond offers and the fifth in the series rolled out this year. The chip is currently sampling and is competitively priced at under $0.94 in 25,000 quantities.

The W681513 is a Voiceband CODEC for voice-grade, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion in USB applications. The chip includes a fully differential output to minimize noise. In order to provide the cleanest signal possible, the chip complies with ITU-T G.712 and ITU-T G.711 industry standard specifications. The 5V IC features low power consumption, enables system level customization, and is offered in SOP20 packaging.

“The 5V W681513 is suited for USB applications that require a non-standard master clock of 2.000 MHz,” said Boaz Efroni Rotman, CODEC product marketing manager for Winbond America. “Examples include USB Internet phones, USB headsets and microphones for PCs and game stations, and other applications that require the high quality telephony ITU-T G.712 specifications at the standard 8KHz sample rate.”
