Winbond America Announces Pre-Recording Services for Award Winning Line of ChipCorder® Voice Record and Playback ICs

San Jose, CA, Oct. 22, 2003 — Winbond Electronics Corporation America, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions to the consumer, computer, communications and electronics products markets today announced that it has certified Nu Horizons Electronics Corporation (Nasdaq/NM: NUHC) as an official pre-recording service provider for Winbond’s award winning line of ChipCorder Voice Record and Playback IC solutions. Nu Horizons, a leading distributor of active and passive electronic components, is the first Winbond distributor to be so certified. Additional Winbond distributors are currently completing the certification process and are expected to be qualified to offer pre-recording services by the end of 2003.

Winbond’s ChipCorder ICs offer a wide range of recording durations, from 10 seconds to 16 minutes, and are ideal for broad spectrum of markets and applications including consumer, security, industrial and automotive requiring voice capture and playback, voice annunciation of prompts and alerts, and multi-language personalization of electronic products. Because the chips use a cost-effective non-volatile analog format, they can be individually pre-recorded with specific voice prompts. However, when the application requires large volumes of chips, this can result in a time consuming or labor intensive effort. Establishing certified pre-recording service providers provides an optimal solution to customers who recognize the superior value of a ChipCorder solution, but don’t have the infrastructure to do the recording themselves.
