Taiwan, May 8th, 2007 —
For years, Winbond has been devoted to the development of the key chips for PC motherboards, notebook PCs and servers. Winbond offers complete Super I/O solutions, and IC components for clock generators, hardware monitoring, power management, all-in-one card reader control, 1394a control, flash memory host control with SPI/LPC/ISA/FWH interfaces, TPM security, and notebook keyboard control. Winbond’s new products introduced in IIC-China Exhibition can be applied to new generation PC platforms to create new value for our customers.
As the global leader of PC Super I/O chips, Winbond introduced in 2006 the W83627DHG series for the latest Intel and AMD platforms with backward compatibility to the old platforms. In addition to conventional Super I/O functions, the W83627DHG craftily integrates the digital and analog circuits, allowing smoother system operation and effective reduction of fan noise and overall cost.
In addition, the Super I/O chips in the W83627HF and W83627EHF series are adopted and highly regarded by the major industrial computer manufacturers worldwide. To meet the increasing demand of the industrial computer market, Winbond presents in January 2007 the W83627UHG series that support 6 sets of conventional COM Ports and 8 sets of independent GPIOs. The W83627UHG is the most integrated and most powerful Super I/O for industrial computers in the market. It meets the application requirements and is widely recognized by the major manufacturers.
In 2006, Winbond presented the new generation keyboard controller chips and embedded control chips (KBC/EC) for notebook PCs – the W83L951ADG. The W83L951ADG is designed in particular for notebook PCs and Mini Barebone System. The core is based on Turbo 8052, with 2KB/256 Bytes RAM and 64KB Embedded Flash Memory. Meanwhile, the W83L951ADG supports Interface with SPI Flash which stores KBC Code. The W83L951ADG automatically detects and downloads KBC Code via SPI Flash Interface, maintaining the stability of built-in Flash and low production cost of SPI Share ROM at the same time.
Winbond announced its peripheral power switches of notebook PCs applications, W83L351 and W83L352, in 2006 and Q1/2007, respectively. W83L351 series are the power distribution switch for the ExpressCardTM interface of the next generation PC Card. It conforms to the ExpressCardTM compliance checklist and has acquired the compliance ID (EC100098). W83L351 series support single-slot socket of ExpressCard|34TM or ExpressCard|54TM and distribute 3.3V, 3.3Vaux and 1.5V power to the ExpressCardTM socket. W83L352 is dedicated to the power distribution switch in the peripheral interface of notebooks. W83L352 series can act as the USB current limited power switch as well. With the protection mechanism of under voltage and thermal shutdown, a safer working environment could be ensured. For years, Winbond has devoted itself to the development of power management chips for desktop, laptop and server applications. The power management chips, such as ACPI controller, Switching PWM controller and Bus Termination Regulator, could greatly save product design time, cost and lower RMA cases.
With the rapid development of technology and digital content, the demands of data storage for exchange between equipment and consumer electronic products are increasing. Soon, Winbond will introduce new generation multi-media integrated chips – the W83L548G, integrated memory cards with PCI interface – the W83L548G-DS, IEEE 1394a Link Layer and Dual-port Physical Layer Controller. The W83L548G supports Vista ReadyBoost® function of Microsoft`s latest operation system, integrates flash memory card interface of MS/Memory Stick Pro and SD/MMC and xD memory card, and supports all of the up-to-date specifications of the memory cards, such as MS Micro, SD, MMC Plus, xD Type M and Type H, as well as SDIO interface. Consumers can easily expand the hardware by linking to multiple peripheral application modules. The W83L548G also meets the IEEE-1394-2000 specification, offers a set of IEEE 1394a ports with 100/200/400 Mbps rate of transmission, and supports asynchronous data transmission, isochronous transaction, as well as I2C EEPROM. In addition to the complete memory card and the IEEE 1394a ports, the W83L548G-DS also supports a second set of SD/SDIO ports for more flexible system design.
Winbond offers power management chips, ACPI Controller, Switching PWM Controller, Clock Generator, and Embedded Control chips as a comprehensive solution. Such a solution not only improves system stability and overall performance but also reduces heat, shortens motherboard design time and lowers customer’s RMA and production cost. This solution has been highly regarded and successfully adopted by major manufacturers.
Winbond will continue to dedicate itself to the development and improvement of the IC with the latest features and the best performance in the future.
