Winbond America Introduces New Dual Programmable Extended
CODEC/SLIC IC for the VoIP Market

San Jose, CA, March 1, 2006 — Winbond Electronics Corporation America, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions to the consumer, computer, communications and electronics products markets, today introduced the first product in its new Pro-X™ Series (PROgrammable eXtended CODEC/SLIC). The W682388 is the world's most highly integrated dual port FXS telephone line interface solution. It integrates dual SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Circuit) functionality with a dual programmable CODEC as well as a dual DC-to-DC controller on a single piece of silicon.

This benefits system designers by reducing power consumption and board space. Most importantly it offers the lowest cost Bill of Materials (BOM) in the industry. All this is achieved while improving system performance rather than compromising it. "Our value proposition to the market is quite simple," said Saleel Awsare, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Mixed Signal Product Center. "We offer better performance at a lower cost."

Further benefits include a fully programmable CODEC which supports a comprehensive and user friendly set of signaling capabilities required to supervise and control both telephone lines, thus offloading processor overhead and offering designers a user-friendly signal processing environment. The wide variety of clocking speeds and schemes supported allow for system integration into virtually any system with little or no additional logic. An on-chip dual pulse width modulation (PWM) driver allows individual control of the DC-to-DC conversion for each line, optimizing power consumption. Programmable impedance and trans-hybrid balancing allow for worldwide deployment.

The W682388 is optimized for short loop applications and targets the VoIP equipment market space such as VoIP gateways, Analog Telephone Adapters (ATAs), voice enabled DSL and cable modems. Additionally, the device is also suited for Private Branch Exchange (PBX), Wireless Local Loop (WLL) and FTTX applications.

The W682388 is available in 64-pin LQFP and 64-pin QFN packages. Lead-free package options are available. Samples are available now from local Winbond sales offices and its authorized representatives.
